Christmas Meme -- come and play!

It's a little snowy outside today, the radio station I like to listen to is now playing Christmas music, so it's put me in a Christmassy mood *g*. Thought I'd play this meme and hopefully some of you will play along, too. I'll tag a few people, but anyone can paritcipate if they wish.

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Wrapping paper mostly, gift bags once in a while.

2. Real tree or Artificial? Real tree

3. When do you put up the tree? Alway first weekend of December

4. When do you take the tree down? Second weekend of January

5. Do you like eggnog? I loooove eggnog! Yummmmy!!

6. Favourite gift received as a child? Lego! I loved to build stuff, especially with my two brothers

7. Hardest person to buy for? My dad

8. Easiest person to buy for? My hubby and my best buddy Kat

9. Do you have a nativity scene? Yes. A small hand made/painted wooden one. We put it up on our mantel each Christmas

10. Mail or email Christmas cards? Definitely mail. I love to send cards and receive them as well *g*

11. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Yup... heehee!

12. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? A brass penguin. I don't even know what one is supposed to do with a brass penguin. I mean, if it was cute, I could have put it on my desk or somthing, but this thing was damn ugly... and, no, I did not recycle it *grins*, it went away to brass penguin heaven

13. Favourite Christmas Movie? Rudolf The Red-Nosed Reindeer!!! I'm still a big kid at heart *g*

14. When do you start shopping for Christmas? Usually end of November

15. Favourite thing to eat at Christmas? Dark Chocolate, dark chocolate, dark chocolate!!!!!

16. Lights on the tree? Yes. The small white fairy lights

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? Stay home. I don't like travelling far in the winter

19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer? Yes, I can! And I didn't even have to look it up on the 'net *g*. Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet and Cupid, Donner and Blitzen... and, of course, Rudolf!!

20. Angel on the tree top or a star? Neither. I have a small stuffed animal, a reindeer, he's called Rodney, who adorns the top of our tree. Yeah, I know, I'm weird!

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Hubby and I open our gifts to each other on Christmas Eve, then get together with family Christmas day to open the rest

22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year? Crowds at the mall and having to wait in line, for what seems like hours, with only one item to buy... ACK!

23. Favourite ornament theme or colour? Red and silver and I prefer handmade ornaments

24. What do you want for Christmas this year? Well, I would love to get Gale Harold for Christmas... but, I'm told by a certain person who lives with me that it will never happen, so I guess I could make do with a new camera *grins*

Um, I think I'll skip that one as I don't actually celebrate christmas. No presents except from and to a few friends and certainly no tree. The bunny would just try to eat it anyway *G* But I do make a nice beef roast with dumplings and red cabbage on the 24th. But that's about it.

Depends on shape of item. Sometimes, both - wrap and put in festive bag.


2. Real tree or Artificial?
Chanukah (or Hanukkah) lamp for me. I have a collection of them.
No ‘Chanukah bush.”


3. When do you put up the menorah?
Lamp goes up first night of Chanukah and stays for the entire 8 days.


4. When do you put the menorah away?
At the end of the eight days.


5. Do you like eggnog? I loooove eggnog! Yummmmy!!
No. I’ll take a gin and tonic. Bombay Saphire or Tanqueray.


6. Favourite gift received as a child?
A set of building pieces to create a house - different style windows and doors, different brick sizes. Loved it. Played with it for years. My mom convinced me to give it to a younger cousin (“You’re too old for this.”) Cousin never used it.
A pox on him.


7. Hardest person to buy for?
No one in particular.


8. Easiest person to buy for?
Ditto #7.


9. Do you have a nativity scene?
No. Sometimes a dreidel.


10. Mail or email holiday?
Used to send cards without fail - Chanukah, Christmas and general holiday. Little by little, habit fell mostly by the wayside but I do send a few and include a personal message in each, not a printed ‘update’ for all.
When I admit to myself that I’m not going to send a card to remaining people on list, I get in touch with them by phone, e-mail or both.


11. Have you ever recycled a holiday present?
Yes. If I thought other person would like it. “Uglies” not sent onward.


12. Worst Chanukah/Christmas gift you ever received?
Some things that were for size humongous (I am not that size) - what was giver thinking? And useless nick-nacks? Is there not enough dusting to do?


13. Favourite holiday Movie?
“An Affair to Remember” - I don’t know if it’s a Christmas movie but it came to mind.

“Oh, it's nobody's fault but my own! I was looking up... it was the nearest thing to heaven! You were there…”


14. When do you start shopping for Chanukah?
Eight gifts needed but first is big, others small.
Whenever I see something appropriate I buy and put it away. Children in family always get some money as well to do with as they please.


15. Favourite thing to eat at Chanukah?
Latkes (potato pancakes) with lots of sour cream and applesauce.
(Dark chocolate was mentioned. Any time of year for that.) ☺

Candles on the menorah - one for each of the 8 nights and the Shamash which is the candle used to light the others.


17. Favourite holiday song?
? Can’t think of one.


18. Travel at holiday time or stay home?
Not so much since my mom died.

No. But, I can name all the main characters in QaF.

Evening when present(s) given.

Advertising insistence that everyone is amazingly happy.
And, earlier and earlier start to the advertising.

I rotate use of different menorahs.

“Well, I would love to get Gale Harold for Christmas...” fantasy rang a bell with me.

His complete recovery would for sure feel like a gift to me.

That's okay, no worries!

One of our dogs, his first christmas with us, decided that because there was a real tree inside the house, he could use it to pee on, LOL. Luckily there weren't any presents under it ;)

We have about two inches of snow on te ground right now. The weather is supposed to get a little warmer, though, and we're going to get some rain, so the snow will probably melt.
